Chris Anderson may have just blocked you...

Just thought I would share this link, taken from Chris Anderson's blog yesterday. An interesting approach to frustration with PR practitioners...and I'm sure it isn't the first time someone's posted a list like this and blocked all of the folks who are on it. But is this kind of reaction cool? Is it a smart move by Chris or a cruel one? To some, it's amusing and a situation of "what goes around, comes around." For others, it's a power play by someone who should expect to get deluged with a mixture of relevant news, standard announcements and a far-fetched Hail Mary, since he's a high-profile author and editor of a very popular magazine. What do you think? Right or wrong? Funny or not?

Andrew Rodger:

While I certainly understand Anderson's feelings on PR people who do not exercise due diligence and blast him with press releases and pitches that do not apply to him, I do not think that it is right for him to post a lengthy list of folks whom he has blocked from sending him another message.

Perhaps a short, curt note back to the offender would do the trick. This note might read:

"Thank you for your note. However, the nature of your email shows me that you have not researched our read this magazine and know nothing about its contents. Therefore, I am blocking you from sending me more emails. If you have something of substance to send me, then please use a different email address to send it to me, but please, perform your research first."

I really do not think it is necessary to publicly embarrass people that way. Additionally, some of the people on this list may have legitimately thought that Anderson was the correct contact to pitch. What then?
